The factory is a primary magnesium plant built in 1979 with a capacity of 700 MT/month of pure magnesium. The technological process is the magnotherm, identical to the one used in Marignac France. Our first investment was in renovating completely this production, since we are the sole factory in Europe able to produce primary magnesium in Europe. Today, due to the market situation and the Chinese production and domination of the market, we are not yet producing pure magnesium. We estimate to restart the primary plant within the next year.
Our recycling facility is located within the primary plant. We own ISO 9001 standard and produce alloys according to ASTM standards from scrap or alloying process. Our team is composed of high skilled engineers and skilled workers, known in Europe for their know-how in the primary production.
Our recycling facility has a capacity of 800 to 1000 MT/ month. We use electric heated furnaces with 14 MT crucidal, exactly similar to the Pechiney/ Marignac one. By capacity, we are one the largest recycler in Europe. We have 2 casting machines one older one with classic moulds and one that we acquired from North west alloys, with US moulds and norskhydro type.
We have 4 furnaces powered by 900 kw, 300 kw per zone and therefore we have as well 4 crucidal of 14 MT. We are using Desomag - Flux 5 in the refinment process and during casting as cover gas we use SO2. We also have available nitrogen and argon.
During scrap melting we use a mixer. For casting we are pumping the liquid metal through electric pumps. The moulds during the casting process are constantly at the temperature of 165 degrees.
Regarding the quality control, sample are taken during melting, refinment and casting to ensure the chemical content of the material that is recycled. Samples are taken many times during all these stages, prior casting. All the quality control process is done by spectrometer, type: ARL-PISONS8680-XRF275
We always have on stock Beryllium, pure aluminum, zinc, manganese that we use mainly for alloys production and the correction of recycled material. It is important to mention that our strength is in being able to work on different scrap going from class 1 to class 8.
